KID'S CAP AND SCARF
- a multi-purpose machine (with a knitting needle)
- scissors (if you have zigzag scissors, that will also come in handy)
- pins or clothespins
- tailor's centimeter
- you can also prepare/make small wisps and decorate the scarf with them (we did this with the rabbit set)
The set consists of:
- 2x scarf pieces
- 4x ear (2x front of ear, 2x back of ear)
- 1x headpiece
- 3x elements of the coquette/bow (in sets with a mouse)
... cutting out all the elements from the kit:
Sewing the scarf
Place the scarf pieces right side to right side, fasten with pins or clothespins and sew all around. REMEMBER to leave an opening for turning it out. Cut the seam allowances on the corners of the scarf and turn it right side out. Carefully push out the corners of the scarf, line up the edges, and quilt across the top for 2-3mm.
Match the ears in pairs, pin the right side to the right side and sew the side edges together. If you have zig-zag scissors, cut the seam allowance with them. You can also cut it with regular scissors. Turn the ears right side out, align and iron. NOTE- in the case of mouse ears, we recommend reinforcing the ear with thick interlining (e.g. fluffy), cotton wool or vigofile. This will make the ear stand up nicely.
There are 3 pieces of bow in the MOUSE set. Fold the two larger ones right side to right side together, fold the smaller one along the longer edge. Sew the elements together as shown in the photo. Remember to leave a hole to turn it out. Cut off the excess seam allowance at the corners, turn the elements right side out, push out the corners carefully, sew the holes by hand.
Fold the larger bow piece into a nice overlapping and sew through the center. Hide the seam under the smaller element of the bow. Sew the smaller element by hand.
Arranging the ears
You can fold the rabbit's ears as in this photo:
or as here:
This is our suggestion for sewing mouse ears, but, for example, if you fill them with interlining, you can sew them almost completely "straight".
We decided to bend the ears of the bear in this way:
Sewing the headpiece
Pin the ears to the outer sides of the middle, the upper curves. We sewed the ears of the bear right at the bottom corner. Mouse and rabbit ears in the middle of the arches.
Fold the headpiece along the long edge so that two "horns " form at the top and bottom. Sew the long outer edge from the tip of the top "horn" to the top of the bottom "horn".
Then sew the short side of the corners where the fabric bends.
Unfold the "corners" and fold the top of the headpiece, so that our sewn sides are in the middle of it. Pin the top bow and sew. REMEMBER to leave an unstitched part in the lower bow - it will serve as an opening for us to turn out the cap.
Turn the cap right side out (using the hole in the unstitched part, i.e. the one without ears). Fold the cap in half so that the layer without ears goes inside the part with ears (left side to left side).
Align and you're done!
This is how our sets look like:
Thank you for sewing together
