    Long skirt with slit

I invite you to sew together! This time we take to the workshop a long, straight skirt with an elastic band, and with a slit in the seam. To this romantic fashion we will add practical pockets hidden in the side seams. The icing on the cake will be the material we use to sew the skirt, which is an ethereal VISCOSE WITH A LINEN WEAVE.

To sew a skirt you need:
    - a multifunction machine
    - a serger (you can also sew a skirt without it, you can use overlock stitches on your machine)
    - pins
    - elastic thread for bottom bobbin of machine, universal thread on needle
    - scissors
    - about 1m of e.g. viscose with linen weave
    - 25mm elastic (calculate the length of the elastic by multiplying the length of the belt x 0.75)
    - a piece of fabric for the pocket (in my case it is jersey)

    1. Adjust the length of the fabric to your height. From the length of the fabric, you need to subtract about 4 cm for the elastic tunnel and 1.5 cm for the bottom hem. With my height (178cm), I needed exactly one meter for the maxi skirt.

    2. Mark where the end of the tunnel is. For 2.5cm elastic, this will be 8cm from the top of the skirt.

    3. Prepare a die-cut for the pocket bag. You can trace it from your hand.

    4. Pin the pocket bag with the right side to the right side of the skirt 15cm below the waistline.

    5. Sew the pocket pieces to the front and back of the skirt. Hem the seam allowance (joint of pocket and skirt) on the serger.

    6. Mark the size of the slit at the bottom of the skirt. I opted for a slit on one side. You can make it in both seams, of course. In my case it is 40cm long.

    7. Fold the front and back of the skirt together (right side to right). Align the pockets precisely.

    8. Sew together the sides of the skirt. Start sewing from the top, around the pocket and up to the intended slit (in my case 40cm from the bottom of the skirt)

    9. Hem the edges of the seam allowance on the serger. If you are hemming the front and back of the skirt together, about 5cm above the slit start hemming each edge separately.

    10. Turn the skirt right side out and iron it. Turn the unstitched side edge outwards approximately 1.5 cm.

    11. Make a short stitch (about 1cm from the bottom).

    12. Turn the corner to the right side.

    13. Pin together the resulting stitching.

    14. Quilt this piece.

    15. Hem the top of the skirt on the serger. Fold the edge of the skirt 4cm inwards (left side to left side).

    16. Pin and sew together. Bear in mind to leave an opening for the elastic to be pulled in.

    17. Pull the elastic into the formed tunnel. Make sure it does not twist in the tunnel, sew its ends together.

    18. Sew the hole for the elastic. Align the elastic in the tunnel and sew the stretched elastic through the middle of the tunnel.

    19. Finished!
