DECORATIVE PILLOW HEART
We have a confession to make... we love preparing kits that, once sewn, make fantastic gifts. This time is no different – with Grandma's and Grandpa's Day in mind, Beata Napiontek has created charming heart-shaped pillows. However, we think anyone would be thrilled to receive a pillow like this!
To sew the pillow, you will need:
- a DIY kit from our shop
- a multi-purpose sewing machine,
- sewing accessories (pins, scissors, seam ripper, sharp needle for hand sewing)
In this tutorial, I showcased 3 pillow sizes. The largest one is available in the store as a fabric panel. I used about 800g of silicone fiberfill to stuff it. The remaining pillow sizes are available as kits that already include the required amount of silicone fiberfill.
Before starting work, remember – DO NOT WASH the panel before sewing, this is very important. Washing such a kit before sewing may cause the individual pieces to misalign and warp after cutting. Therefore, wash only after the kit is fully sewn.
1. Cut out the hearts from the panel. The first photo shows the smallest pillows from the kit. The second photo features the rose-patterned pillows, which represent the largest size option (available as a panel), and the black pillow shows the medium option.
2. Fold the pillow pieces right sides together. Velvet tends to shift during sewing, so it is helpful to secure the pieces with pins.
3. Stitch the pieces together. Remember to leave an opening for turning it right side out.
4. Trim the bottom point and seam allowances at the bottom of the heart. Clip the inner corner and trim the seam allowances at the top notch of the heart.
5. Turn the heart right side out. Smooth out the edges and carefully push out the bottom point. Use a pin or needle to help you with this.
6. Stuff the heart with silicone fiberfill. Close the opening using a blind ladder stitch by hand.
Done!
