DECORATIVE PILOWS

A new set for decorative pillows has joined the rich offer of our shop.

With the proposed set, you will sew a pair of two pillows: a square one measuring 40x40cm and a rectangular one measuring 30x50cm.

In the blog post below, I will show you how to sew a simple pillow without an insert, as well as a pillow with a zippered cover. I hope this post will inspire your creative approach to our sets!

First method: SIMPLE PILLOW

You will need:
- A set from dresówka.pl (inside you'll find two cover panels, silicone fiberfill, and two tags)
- A sewing machine or overlock 
- A hand sewing needle

1. Cut out the printed panels. Fold the pillowcase right sides together. Pay attention to the direction of the velvet nap. Stitch the cover around all sides. REMEMBER to leave an opening of approx. 12 cm to turn the fabric right side out and stuff it with fiberfill.

2. Fill the pillow with the fiberfill.

3. Sew the opening shut using a blind hand stitch.

ZIPPERED PILLOWCOVER

You will need:
- A set from dresówka.pl (inside you'll find a cover panel and silicone fiberfill)
- Zipper tape
- A zipper slider
- Pins or sewing clips
- A zipper presser foot

1. Cut the zipper tape to the length of the side where the zipper will be located. I chose the shorter side.

2. Put the slider onto the zipper tape and secure its ends from opening. Sew near the edge, on the left side of the tape.

3. Fold the pillowcase elements right sides together and make two short stitchings at the edges – at a depth of about 1.5 cm and length of about 2 cm.

4. Press open the resulting seam allowance (remember to use a pressing cloth). This will serve as a flap underneath which the zipper will hide.

5. Attach the zipper tape with pins or clips to the created seam allowance (right side of the tape to the right side of the allowance).

6. Sew the tape using the zipper foot. Do not start at the very edge; make a subtle overlap to the seam you already made.

7. Turn the fabric to the right side. The zipper is now hidden in our placket allowance.

8. Topstitch along the right side of the created flap.

9. The zipper is neatly hidden in an elegant flap!

10. Sew the cover together. Place the fabric right sides together and stitch the remaining edges. I did this using an overlocker.

11. Turn right side out, push out the corners, fill with fiberfill or insert a pillow pad, and you're done!
