NAPKINS AND RUNNER

NAPKINS AND RUNNER

It's time – get your home ready for the holidays and sew decorations for your festive table.

To sew the napkins and table runner, I used a ready-made kit available for purchase in the store. The kit contains beautifully color-coordinated materials needed to sew:

- 6 cutlery napkins

or

- 6 cutlery napkins and a table runner (154x38cm)

The pattern is printed on a lightweight, waterproof material that wonderfully imitates the texture of natural linen. The material does not crease, bend, has a pleasant texture to the touch, and is stain-resistant.

I sewn the napkins and table runner using:

* Janome 744D overlocker and Janome multi-purpose sewing machine
* additionally, I needed scissors, pins, and tailor's chalk/soap

I invite you to sew along:

1. PREPARING THE MATERIAL

Start sewing the napkins and table runner by cutting out the individual pattern pieces. All elements are printed on the material and include seam allowances.

2. NAPKINS

Fold the cut-out rectangles lengthwise right sides together and stitch around the edges. Remember to leave an opening of about 3-4 cm. Turn the whole piece right side out through this opening.

Iron the turned-out napkins, press the opening as well by folding the material inside.

Fold the napkins at the spot marked on the pattern and stitch (the sides and top), also sewing the opening closed. In addition to a straight stitch, I also suggest decorative stitches—today I tested the Janome QXL 605 machine and a star stitch.

3. TABLE RUNNER (dimensions of the runner after sewing approx. 152x38cm)

You can finish the edges of the runner in several ways, I am showing two:

A. The first simple way... fold and press all edges of the runner twice by 1 cm (double fold hem). Stitch along all edges.

B. The second way - mitered corners

Fold the edges of the runner in an accordion style: once outward and once inward (double fold hem).

Mark a 45-degree angle at the corners (which is exactly half the corner). I do this somewhat by eye: fold the protruding excess fabric into a "point", mark the center, draw a line, and stitch across. Trim the excess fabric, turn right side out, and smooth it out. Repeat for every corner.

After sewing, you can iron the napkins and table runner. Remember to do this through another cloth.
