To sew leggings you need:
- a ready-made set available in the store dresówka.pl, which includes a die-cut for leggings applied to the material
- tailor's scissors
- pins
- universal thread and stretch needles
- serger or multifunction machine with overlock stitch
- coverlock or double needle in a multifunction machine
THE SET DOES NOT INCLUDE AN ELASTIC BAND!
- leg x2
- front waist x2
- back waist x2
- crotch element x2
- leg x2
- front waist x1
- back waist x1
1. If you have chosen leggings made of combined materials first join the legs together.
Start with a cut of about 0.5cm of the lower part of the leg at the place shown in the picture.
Then pin the edges of the knitted fabric with pins and sew so that at the point of the cut the fabric is stitched, at least 2-3mm.
This is how the whole leg looks after sewing.
2. Align the legs with the right sides facing each other and sew at the front and back of the undercut areas.
3. Pin the double crotch midsection to the crotch of the front legs and then sew. 3. Fasten the middle of the double crotch to the crotch of the front legs, and then sew. Girls' leggings do not have this element, skip point 3-4.
4. Pin the centre of the crotch to the crotch seam of the back section of the legs, then pin the edges of the legs together all the length. Sew from the bottom of one leg through the middle of the crotch, to the bottom of the other leg.
5. Roll up the leg bottoms about 2cm and sew on the coverlock or double needle on the multifunction machine and you will have the bottom part of the leggings ready.
6. Align the belt sections with the right sides facing each other so that the front belt meets the back belt. Pin together at the sides and then sew them together. Do this twice. In girls' leggings, the front and back of the waistband, each consist of a single element. They should be sewn together as shown in the first picture, and then folded left to left. Also skip point 7.
7. Turn one belt right side out and insert inside of the other so that the top edges match, pin around and sew together.
8. Adjust the length of the elastic to the circumference of your waist, leaving about 1.5cm for the seam. Sew the elastic flat.
9. Turn the whole belt right side out and put the elastic in the middle of the belt, between the inner and outer layer. Place the elastic at the very seam joining the inner and outer belt.
Pin in place by catching both layers of fabric. Then, on a coverlock or double needle, sew the belt about 2cm from the edge, so that you sew through the elastic and the two layers of the waistband.
10. Divide the circumference of the waistband into 4 equal sections, then do the same on the circumference of the already sewn legs. Join the waist and legs together, evenly tucking in any excess fabric.
Sew the waistband with a little tension to match the circumference of the legs.
And you're done! Now you can go to fitness, bike, yoga, walking or anywhere else you see yourself fit in your new super leggings :)

15/11/2023From what I read in English sewing resources, the English term for the "crotch element" is "crotch gusset" or just "gusset".
